The restoration on my Simplicity 6111 has bought me to the stage of starting up the engine, which by the way is a 11hp Briggs and Stratton I/C engine, 252707, i have not yet wired up the ignition switch , etc, i am effectively 'hot wiring' it. However nothing happened, the starter motor didn't even turn over. I have checked the motor, which appears to be fine and my battery is fully charged. The battery i am using is 28Ah, is this powerful enough? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Did you jump wire directly to the starter?
I wouldn't worry about the battery being big enough, so long as it has a good charge.
However, these engines have a rather cheap plastic bendex drive.
It is prone to braking apart and jamming the flywheel.
If jumping the starter doesn't produce the desired result,
You will have to remove all those sheet metal covers.
It's not really a big job.
First you can pull the spark plugs and see if you can spin the engine over by hand.
One or two hands on the screen on top of the engine should do.
The bendex drive is cheap enough. About 10 or 15 bucks here in the US!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Yes, i did just have the starter wire onto the battery, bypassing the solenoid. I believe it is a bendix gear motor, but when i connect it up to the battery the gear does not shoot up to engage with the flywheel or do anything it is just motionless and it doesn't make a straining sound as if it were trying. And yes the engine is free and not jammed .

Thanks
