Been working of getting the 1256 running right. PO had the main and idle jets turned WAY out. I put them back to spec, and engine runs MUCH better, but still not right.

It will run just fine at partial throttle, doesn't miss a beat. But at full throttle, after a bit it wants to 'bog down' like it's not getting fuel. I'm thinking that it may need a new fuel filter.

However, I don't see one at either end The fuel line runs from the tank BEHIND the engine shroud. Would there be an in-line fuel filter in that area that I can't see?

I'd like to check a 1256 manual, but haven't found one anywhere.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

A new filter is a good idea, whether that is the problem or not.

Also, make sure the tank isn't partly blocked at the outlet.

It is possible that it does not have one . You've probably already done this, but follow the fuel line from the tank to the carb.

Fuel line leaves the tank, then is routed BEHIND the front engine shroud, and then out the other side to the carb.

I wouldn't expect a filter to be in behind the shroud,so it probably doesn't have one.

One of the things I did was remove the drain plug on the bottom of the carb, thinking that there might have been water in the bowl.

I let it run for quite awhile, but it never did seem to have a good serious flow. I wonder if that normal, of it maybe the float valve might be a bit blocked?

I may try running some Seafoam or Marvel Mystery oil thru the gas to see if that helps.

I guess that if all else fails, I'll have to re-build the carb.

Did you take the valve out of the bottom of the tank and see if it's blocked? Check the tank it's self for something in it floating around and blocking the fuel flow.

If the fuel line is running close to the head/block back there, it may need replacing. Probably lots of heat in that area.

There is no filter called for on the 1256-02. The only filter is the screen in the fuel tank. If you didn't get good flow with the carb plug out I would remove the fuel line from the carb and check the flow there. If that is good then it is in the carb, if not look to the line or the tank screen.
