Taking apart a MF12g today to begin the restoration process. Tire Wheel Vehicle Automotive tire Motor vehicle On the transmission there is a rubber hose approx 3/4" that ends under the seat pan. Gas Auto part Nut Metal Machine What is the hose for and is there to be a plug in the end of the hose? I would think there would be to keep dirt and dust out but did not see anything in part books, repair manual, or owners manual. The only thing I could find was an oil tank under the seat. Are the oil tanks for just the 12H's?

Also anything tricky taking the lift lever off the tractor besides taking out the 2 set screws?

Almost done, just waiting on PB blaster to loosen up some rust on steering wheel to get it off to remove the rest of the dash and tower. Motor vehicle Bumper Vehicle Automotive tire Automotive exterior

As far as I know there is no plug or cap for the hose and it is a breather hose for the transmission. Helps keep the seals from leaking with pressure building due to temperature variances. I would think you could put some sort of filter on it since it just sits under the seat.

That hose is the tranny fill hose. As George said, it should vent. I've

come across a couple, that had a rag, or screen door screening over it, held

on with wire. Not exactly a factory install, but a good idea, to keep stuff from

getting in the tranny.

Yes, only the later model 12H had the tank under the seat. I think that in the

1st 2 years they didn't.

On the lift lever, take those set screws all the way out. I think those are

the ones, with the taper dowel on the end.

Yes I would take both set screws out completely. If it doesn't move with a pry bar behind it I like to add some heat to it. That always works.

Thanks Nutndun, I will so some looking to see what I can come up with for a filter.

Thanks Will and Ckjak, the taper one is out all the way I will go out this afternoon and take the other one out and see if the whole thing will come off.

I guess this isn't supposed to be in my MF12G? Plastic plug, doesn't fit super tight, but it'd been there long as I have had the tractor.

Mine has the same little plug on it like yours, even the same colour.
Both my '72 MF 12g and '66 MF10 have the same yellow plug.
Mine too has the yellow plug. I believe I bought a new one from Jacks small engine a few years back. Massey part # 833 834 M1 Plug,Filler Looks like only .17 cents for one!
Those look like the plastic plugs they use for capping hydraulic lines when doing repairs I will have to do some looking around. I did find some chrome breather filters on ebay with 3/4 pipe but they are a lot more than .17 cents.

Still have not had mush luck with lift lever, going to keep spraying it with PB blaster and then on Sat if it is not loose ill put some heat to it. I would like to get it off and the steering wheel off to start cleaning up the frame to repaint.

Was a strange "bump" in the site today and posting goofed up for me. Anyway I hope I didn't sound like a smarty with my earlier comment. I really didn't know if that plug should be there or not, still not sure. George thought maybe the yellow plug had a pinhole in it so I looked closely at it but could see none. Here is a pic of the lettering on the yellow plug touched up with a black marker in case anyone wants to compare.
