I really like my loader 1655 and was thinking of finding another to mow with. Right now I mow with a John Deere 420 with a 60" deck. It's a great mower and machine. I'm just curious if I'd be disappointed in the performance of the 55 series as a mower. I've read nightmares about hunting for parts. Anyone ever installed a deck from another brand?

I found another one that is ready to go. Has the mid mount and a rear bush hog with it. It's not cheap but is also in good shape. Just wondering if this is something I should go after. Thanks!!

Better stick with your Deere as much as I hate to say that!
The 1655/1855 are awesome mowers when they are running......but parts like you said are nonexistent for the mower decks.
I have one I run alongside a gc2300 Massey......we mow miles and miles of grass a year on multiple farm lots with these two mowers.......I personally run the 1655 and my wife or boy run the Gc2300.
Because of the design of the tractor(short wheelbase) it's hard to find a deck that will retrofit to this tractor......that's why MF designed the square style deck with timed blades.
I searched and came up with a solution for this deck parts issue.......found a RM60 ingersoll mower deck and retrofit to my tractor. Took some work and fabrication but have ran successfully for 4 seasons now.
Would I do it again......no, I'd go buy another gc series Massey! Lol
Good luck in your decision but I'd honestly stick with your Deere or buy a gc series Massey!

That's why I asked. I have no issues now with what I use. I just like the setups of the 55 series and the looks. Opportunity was there. Figured I better get some opinions before I take a step further. Being I collected Case/Ingersoll too, your a rare bird to like the 60" decks from them. I avoid them. I've had a couple and due to parts and issues, never used them before selling them.

Eric, never said I liked the rm60 deck, just had the opportunity to buy a slightly used one for not many $ so jumped on it and also it fit under my tractor! Lol
I can get many more parts for that rm60 deck verse the old Massey deck! The ingersoll deck isn't that bad!
My advice is to just keep looking at Mf 1655/1855 pictures on the internet and run your Deere!
Take care

I have a snapper 1855 and I do not like the mower deck. If your ground is level and rock free, it may be OK. My ground is niether of those. It scalps on the uneven ground and rocks make it break the blades (which are hard to find). The deck is a pain to service due to availability of parts.

Here's a couple of the loader. It's a Johnson Workhorse with a 48" bucket. I had to build the subframe to make it work. I did a thread on here. I work the heck out of it now.

There is an article on the forum on how to modify and convert the MF deck so it is not timed, but takes some $$$ and good fab work to move the middle blade up 5-6".

I've considered converting mine over to a rear 3pt deck.....when I ever get it running.
