My shut off valve is leaking on my Snapper 1855. Has anybody ever replaced one of these? I have not found any info for replacement part or the procedure to replace it. It looks to be a rubber grommet/bushing with the valve. Does the grommet just pull out of the tank? There are many valves on eBay, don't want to get wrong one. There is no vertical screen on the one I have. This is such a simple thing but I don't want to damage the tank in replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

Pictures are worth a thousand words

Pics will definitely help

I believe you are on the right track

Valve could still be good if held in by rubber grommet only

Sounds like the rubber has dried and cracked causing a leak

As Bolens1000 said, many are the same and he most likely has it in stock

He has lots of these odd, hard to find parts available for us

Drain the tank, pull out the valve, and pull out the rubber gromet. It is a universal fit item. The old one usually tears apart when you pull it out, so you may have to go in through the fill opening to retreive the piece left in the tank. The new one just pushes in. Then clean the valve nipple and push it in. I've used a light oil to lubricate the pieces to get them in easier. NAPA used to have them years ago but, finding the part number was very time consuming. Good Luck, Rick

I'd get one from Bolens 1000 and be done with it! Great parts and fast shipping!

Thanks for all the help guys. I was planning on replacing both the bushing and the valve while I have it apart. The gas would drip form the valve stem going into the valve body and the stem wiggles a little. I will take some pictures this evening.

Thanks Rick for the process of replacing. I figured it was a pull out/push in but wanted to make sure. Did not want to damage tank or something else. I get a little paranoid sometimes on this older equipment.

Bolens 1000, I will be contacting you very soon. Thanks for the quotes.

Well I got home from work and removed the valve, then the grommet. Here are some pictures of the little guy.

I am going to get a hold of Bolens 1000 to order both. The grommet and the valve look good but the dripping gas tells the story.
