First time hooking up the blower. I tried to use it but the u joint fell off. It appears I have to use a small bolt or cotter pin to keep the splined part of the joint on the pto shaft. My u joint has a collar; what purpose does it serve?

The early model large frames had a hole in the PTO shaft fore and aft that the hole in the universal lined up with and the " special pin" when thru.
Later model large frames had a groove machined in the shaft again fore and aft that the later model universal with the locking ring engaged.
You need an older style universal or change your PTO shaft to the newer grooved one

Thanks for the replies. I removed the collar from the u joint and now I understand how it works. In the meantime I used a cotter pin to keep the u joint on the shaft. It works just fine. Now, can anybody tell me where I put the chute control shaft? I can't find it!
