We did some work that required me to remove the rectifier out of the way. After getting everything back together I drove it to the shed. I noticed that one black wire that comes from the rectifier was grounding on the firewall. In looking at the wiring diagram I think it goes onto the passenger side of the ammeter. When I touch the wire to that side it gives a dead short . I'm thinking that I blew up the rectifier or that wire goes somewhere else. Would anyone have a picture of that area or any ideas? Thank you for any thoughts on this.

The rectifier has two HOT or 12V positive wires connected to the studs. The ground is provided via the case/mount. One hot wire comes from the stator/flywheel area (~28 V AC) and the other is one side of the AC circuit which is 12V + DC.. That wire should go to the battery or key switch somewhere but I don't know the specifics for your machine.. hope this helps..

Where is the other end of that wire attached? If it goes to the rectifier - (minus) the loose end should ground under the start solenoid mounting screw,
Yes to goes to the rectifier/regulator. So what you say would make sense going to ground. I'm going to have a closer look at this. Of all the pictures of the tractor I have I can't believe that I never took a picture of this area prior to removing that regulator. Thank you for the idea.

If the rectifier/regulator is bad I saw one on ebay for $150 it's NOS. I may get that one. If anyone here is selling one I'd rather buy from here. It is a syncro 277064.

I have used, and still use the $14.xx chinese copys off Ebay with good success.

150 bucks is a lot jing for a .75 cents worth of Aluminum, and .50 cents worth of internal bits.

May have to modify the way it mounts, and obviously add spade connectors, but it does the exact same thing.

Wow that's amazing. So this will work in place of mine which is a rectifier/regulator? Do you know how to match up the wiring from the old one to this new one on the 1886

Terminal ID: Stator-Battery-Stator

You need 2 wires from the stator and one to the Battery or battery side terminal on the solenoid..

Awesome thank you guys I'll get one and try it out. Mine is 30 amp not sure what the one on eBay is I will call them.

Well after removing the rectifier I found that I pinched the wire that goes to the ammeter. This resulted in the direct short to ground. I replaced the wire. It now runs and charges as it should. Thank you to everyone for you help and ideas. We can close this one????????
