Every tractor has a story so here's this one's.

I had been looking for a long time for a MF650 tiller, had bought 1 that was missing gearbox, drive shaft, springs and bracket hoping I would find the missing pieces. Found a guy 140 miles away from me who said he had a tiller and blower and rough MF12hydra tractor but would not separate them. Went to take a look and found Sears blower modified to fit a Massey, a MF12hydra tractor complete with mower deck not running, and a MF650 tiller 22" complete with extra spring set. told the guy I only want the tiller, he said no, ended up with tiller, tractor and set of tire chains. I really didn't want to come home with nothing.

Got home checked out the tractor, mower deck rusted out, motor no good on tractor, all the tin rough, flat rear tires, new front tires, some other new parts and sighs of lots of wear and tear. I thought it was only good for parts until I jacked up the rear end, engaged the hydro drive, cranked over the engine, moved the lever forward+reverse and the wheels turned.

Decided that it was fixable put in a new Chines Honda clone 13hp engine, went though the whole tractor and fixed everything I found broken or not right, painted it and ended up with what you see in the pics. This tractor is the best running, driving MF12 I have tried. Engine is smooth quiet and gives reliable predictable power. Hydra trans is very crisp not mushy like my other hydro.

Put it up for sale tractor+mower, broke even on the deal.
Found out after that 69 and up MF12 hydras came with limited slip diffs. If that's true and I had known I would of never sold it.

It is always nice to hear stories about the tractors that have passed through our lives. I want a 12H, 14, 16 or 1855. I better start saving.

Had to do a service call on this tractor tonight, guy who bought it lives 20 minuets away from me and really likes his Massey. First time he's had any trouble with it.
The mower deck stopped working, took the deck off and the cover found the tensioner pulley stiff (bearing n/g) and the tensioner spring broken. Found replacement parts in my stock and fixed it for him, also sold him one of "olcowhand" steering wheel center caps, that he really liked.
He keeps this thing inside and it looks better now than when he got it, he's added headlights, new decals, wheel weights and now a steering wheel cap.

UPDATE

Though I'd post some current pictures of this tractor which is still working good.
The owner uses it mainly for grass cutting, his place is all hills, so the rear wheels are reversed for a wider stance and they have a set of cast iron wheel weights on them.

They grow up, but they never really leave home, do they?
I'm guessing, that on a quiet night, you hear the clankity clank, of tire chains on
the hardwood floor, heading down the hall, towards the oil change room.
