I'm trying to put together a 3 point and I'm in need of some info.
Looking for a really good Picture and Specs of the factory 3point lift cylinder used on the 14, 16.

What is the Cylinders outer diam, and Stroke?

Also has anybody put a 2 spool valve in place of the 1 spool valve?
Would like to put one in the same spot as the original but it looks kinda tight where it is.

Wish I could help, but the MF14 I used to have didn't have factory 3pt & I had to build my own. I used a deck lift cylinder off a GT14 Wheel Horse for mine. It had about a 4" stroke & 2" bore. Getting a twin spool in that spot would be difficult at best.

I agree with Daniel, that would be a tight spot for sticking another spool in there. I used a 3pt off my 1650 parts tractor on my MF14. Doesn't look original but it's a working tractor. Mounted the controls under the right fender. If I remember correctly the factory cylinder mounted in an upright position behind the tractor. I mounted mine like on the 1650, under the seat. Wish I had a picture for you but I'm sure someone will come along with one. Good luck.

i just did what you're trying! i couldn't find the 3 point for a 14,but i got one for a 1655, i used a wheel horse 18 cylinder mounted under the seat horizontally. i tried a smaller cylinder, but it wouldn't lift enough weight. the 18 cylinder will lift atleast 300# (my dad and i) it sounds like alot but once you get a plow or other attacment hung out the back 3 or 4 feet you need it . if you want pictures of my set-up let me know.

Done some searching and here's a picture from a MF14 parts manual.

Looks like there is a rubber flap that went over the top of it where the sheet metal is removed from the rear fender pan.

Another Question.

With the tractor sitting on a flat level surface how high off the ground should the ends of the lift arms be?

Pins where the attachment goes on at both ends of travel, the lowest and the highest.

if your ever in my neck of the woods stop in( Union, Ont) and we can measure the mf16 or the 1655. I am retired again from Electro motive

Doug, if you can't find a MF part the cylinders for the JD54" blade lift and angle are 4" stroke and about 2.5" diameter. They measure only about 9" when retracted so are very compact. You may be able to find an angle cylinder for sale locally.

I just thought that if I knew what the factory cylinder size was and how much lift there was in the arms, bottom to top, I could make the one that I have work close to what the original was.

What I have is a 1450, 1650, 1655, 1855, 3pt lift, which is different than the MF14, 16.
The lower arms appear to be the same but the rock shaft is different.

Want to modify the the one I have to work the same way as the 14, 16 one does.

I also have a stand off box that was made for the 3pt I have but I just don't like it, I want the arms mounted to the axle, close to the tractor, I think it's better that way.

The guy that made this put a lot of work into it and is probably going to be pissed at me for doing this but it's just personal preference.
The only way I can see to get an original 14, 16, 3pt is going to be to buy a tractor with one on it and they seem to be really hard to find. I try to make do with what I got.

The pic my be a bit deceiving. The cylinder is 8" x 2.25" on the outside. My guess would be a 7" stroke x 2" bore

Probably more like a 4" stroke. The head and base plugs are quite substantial with enough room in them for the fittings, and the piston has some thickness for sealing as well.

The fittings have to be in the end plugs so that the oil goes against the face of the piston, not the side where the seal is located. Figure at least 1/2" inboard of the fittings before the useable bore starts and maybe as much as 1" for the piston, rounded to the nearest 1/2" or 1" if you can't pull the rod and measure directly.

I messed with it a bit today, basically tried to mount the 3pt to the tractor directly and I think it"ll work.
Need to find the right spot to mount the rock shaft mounting brackets so it works right and clears the rear fender seat pan.
Also need to get a cylinder and a diverter valve or a 2 spool control valve.

I'm with tudor, as I think it's about the same stroke as the belly lift cylinder, around 4 to 4 1/2". My memory escapes me on exact figures. I never had a factory MF14 3pt lift, but I did have one of the cylinders at one time for one.

I just checked the AGCO parts books and for the MF16 tractor the hyd cylinders have the same body, piston, seals rod are the same, they have the same part #s.
That means that the diam and stroke will be the same for both mower and 3pt lift.

For the MF14 tractors made serial # 6559 and up (1/2 way through 75) use the same cylinders as the 16. Before that different ones were used.

Learn something new everyday.

I read in another thread that the ends of the arms should have 16" of travel, and be.

4" off the ground in the lowest position
20" off the ground in the highest position

Does this sound about right?
