I'm finally nearing completion on my homemade 3pt. ( pics. later )

Can someone explain and tell me the location of the chains that cross the middle..?? Are they just for keeping the 3pt from swaying to far left and right and rubbing the tires.?? do they just connect to each other ( lower arms ) to keep them from spreading.?? or do they need to be from the tractor to the lower arms.?? I'm thinking of using turn buckles,, are they nessesary.?? OR just hooks..

Any help would be greatly app. This will be going on my 1477 LF bolens

I'm not a farm-boy....... Only in heart...... But I'm learning..... :D

If you look in the Manuals section here at GTTalk, you can find the parts diagram for the 18086 3-pt hitch that Bolens sold for the later Large Frames. The diagram shows how the cross chains are installed from the axle tabs to the lower arms.

AND, in the same Manuals section you can find the Assembly Instructions for the 18010 3-pt that Bolens sold for the earlier Large Frames. That too shows that the chains cross from the axle tabs to the opposite lower arm.
