Doing some work on my 2 stage.

I am just curious before tearing into gear box. Should there be approximately 3/8 to 1/2" play in the pto shaft into gear box.

I don't mean the slip joint but actually in gearbox itself.

Thanks!

I would not think so. Is there side to side play in the shafts? It doesn't take much play in the bearings to increase the backlash in the gears.

assuming you are talking about the 2 stage for your ht20 in the picture on your profile I can say that mine does not have play like that. I'd say very minimal (1/8" at most). wanted to mention tho, I have the hydraulic chute model (not electric motors) that I was going to restore and use but I only really need the single stage here. It would be an excellent source for parts or to redo. I'd let it go for $200 firm if interested message me. I'm located in upstate NY.

Mine is also the hydraulic shoot control. I certainly exaggerated on the amount of play as I think at first it just caught me off guard. It is closer to 1/8" maybe 3/16. I think this is within reason? No leaking, and no lateral slack.

Thanks guys. I love this blower and need it working in tip top order. We get a lot of big snow falls here, so far about 34" this week.

I'd have to agree. nice to at least run it by others tho when you're not sure. at least for piece of mind if nothing else.
Agreed. The manual said nothing of it, and rather be sure than have issues after getting a heavy snow fall. Bring on winter!!
