Yesterday was a big "volunteer" day as the Castle Air Museum spiffy's things up for the Open Cockpit day on Memorial Day. I 'volunteered" :D my 900's services with Haban Sickle Mo attached and spent 7 hours mowing tall grass and weeds in the museum storage area. Almost three acres! with dozens of obsticles to mow around made for lots of backing and inching and 1st gear runs of a few feet. In long open stretches the tractor and mower handled 3rd gear runs with ease.

The Sickle Mo is my favorite attachment. The teeth needed replacement so I pulled the bar from the guide only to find the previous owner had allowed the bar to crack in two and the only thing holding it together at the pitman attach was the rivets for the tooth on either side of the crack. So . . . off to the metal dealer. I purchased the flat stock, transfered the holes and riveted by hand all the teeth to my new bar with those bloody steel rivets. :dancingbanana: Now that's a workout for a blacksmith! Then off to the machine shop to have the threded inserts welded in place for the pitman attach. Put it all together yesterday and ran it for 7 hours. The tractor and Sickle Mo held up better than I did :rocker2:

For work in dry grass and weeds I prefer the Sickle over my flail mower. The flail produces so much dust dirt and chaff it makes most jobs pretty miserable unless you keep a stiff wind at your back, which means a lot of time wasted backing. The flail is great for chopping into mulch tall green weeds and grass, but also requires alot of horse power and good belts under correct tension for the PTO.

Happy mowing!

Well, it sounds like a great day! I think a sickle mower in tall grass and weeds is great and would like to be able to run one with one of my tractors.

Now, about this complete lack of pictures......
