Finally got some MF red paint for the 8. Went to NAPA with the paint codes from the thread here and drew a blank. Apparently NAPA usa sells ppg but not napa canada. He could not seem to cross ref. the other numbers. So up the street to parts source. The paint guy looked up the number but then didn't know if he could mix it for me but after a bit he figured out something. Anyway what I ended up with is OMNI AU (MBX solid) Fleet red 72335. I hope this will do the job. He was telling me that there have been so many changes in the paint lately due to not being able to mix certian ones for safety and env. reasons and that it's hard to keep up with it.
Now a question or 2. On the plastic bits - dash and hood cap - do I need to use a special primer for plastic? Also on the hood, do you guys fill the spot weld indentations where the bulkhead is attached and for the bracket for the cable that holds the hood up, or do you leave them as is? They came unfilled from the factory. I know it's more a matter of personal preference, but just wondering what others do.

I've never used specialty primers on the plastic parts, and paint does fine, even over years. Sometimes when I'm feeling picky, I'll fill the spot welds if they are pretty noticeable, but usually I don't fill them.

Thanks Daniel. I picked up a water/oil filter for my compressor today and have a new rubber air hose to replace the kinky pvc one that's been driving me nuts for years. Also picked up a new paint/pesticide rated respirator with the disposable pre filters. My old one doesn't fit very well and needs new filter canisters anyway. I don't want to paint my lungs MF red.

Brian, I've just painted the plastic. No primer.
The spot welds, I've just left alone, because as you say, that's factory original.
Lookin forward to update pictures.

Thanks guys. It will be a while before I do this. Have to patch some rusted out corners on the fender deck and get the metal parts in the E tank etc. I'm also in the middle of building a new front landing and steps for the porch and have some other outside projects to get through this summer. One way or the other it's getting sprayed before fall!!

I've never spray painted before except for the Rustoleum spray cans. What kind of sprayer do you use? I have a compressor and hose and I will be painting my MF 14. Like everyone else, I am looking forward to your "after" pictures. Good luck!
