Today I finally had a chance to fix the hood on my "worker" EK10 that takes care of lawn mowing and snow removal.

The hoods were made out of aluminum and 40+ years of lifting and vibration wears the holes out and lets the hood rattle and move around making an annoying noise while the engine runs that often blocks out the muffler noise!

Figured I'd post this so others with the same problem can fix their hoods.

All you do is remove the hood, clean the area, fill holes with JB Weld (I use JB Quick) and let dry.

Drill out holes back to spec at 3/8'' and reinstall the hood.

I did this when I restored my 1969 EK10 but dont think I posted this. All Estate Keepers I have come across all had this problem except the new one I just got that was hardly used.

Can't beat JB Weld.

I can't believe ol' Bolens let us down and allowed something to rattle like a new Troy-Bilt with a Kohler Courage!

Ever try heating JB weld with a torch? It turns into an almost Bake-a-lite like substance.Very very hard and strong.Used it to fix the spring loaded Grill on our 98 Mercury Grand Marquis and it held up Awesome. Those springs push really hard on the grill.

I hit a deer and broke the grill in 1/2 and shattered the fiberglass headlight bucket and headlight.Little can of Ready mix Tiger hair,a tube of JB Weld,1 new (junkyard) headlight and a small can of color match paint and it looked like new.

That stuff still amazes me.If you properly prep the area you need repaired and mix it correctly it Can hold up Almost as good as the original part.

Brian are those Magnesium or Cast Aluminum?I'm very surprised they don't have brass or steel bushings on those as thin as the walls are.

lol Neighbor just bought a $2,000 Husqvarna mower for $1899.95 on sale and had it 2 weeks before the block cracked just behind the cylinder lining and blew oil all over the place. It takes Courage to own a Kohler Courage. :rolling: :rolling:

You know, an ol' sock stuck under the hood works almost as good. (No, I don't have any pictures.)
