Well, did some wheeling and dealing and ended up with this 1655. Runs and drives. Needs some carb cleaning and a tune up. I've been on the hunt for the rear pto setup. Also, it's missing the front pto clutch. Does anyone know a source for the electric clutch? I've been do some searching tonight and haven't come up with much. Also, i planned to replace the double belts to the driveshaft. It's gonna be a nice addition to the collection. Looks good with my 16. I pretty much know nothing about these, so if anyone can shoot me some hints, tips, and sources. That would be much appreciated.

Nice looking tractor, your going to love it when you get it fine tuned. Can't help with pointing you in any directions for a clutch.

Nice tractor, love those series but everybody seems to price them like SCUT's up here, for not much more you cab buy, say a 1010 Massey or Kubota B6100. Just gotta wait for that deal to come along.

Oh I think you made a bad purchase You should just ship it to me and I will take that problem away from you. Just kidding excellent purchase I have been looking for a 1655 for a couple years I have 4 of the 1855 models 3 1855A and 1 1855 but am converting it to a 1855A It took some time to find the rear plate and assembly and never have found the shaft so I took one of the shafts off the others and have a friend who is a machinist making me the shaft Good luck with your searches Just takes patience sometimes

I hate it when I make bad purchases. Why didn't anyone warn me!

On a plus note, I may already have a line on both the front and rear pto. Got my fingers crossed.

Even getting a line on clutches for these is hard, so I hope it comes through for you. I've never seen a pto clutch just like these 55 series clutches on any other make of tractor.

Looks good. I had to do slight repair on the front clutch on mine, hopefully it will work. If not, I plan to just weld it together and come up with a mechanical engagement system.

Glad my rear PTO setup is hidden in a secret location from everyone. :rolling:

I have successfully found both front and rear ptos. My question is about the front. Let's suppose it goes bad. Then I'm back to square one. Has anyone humored the idea of adapting a different pto on here? I've found the drive and driven pulleys are the same diameter. Also, the jackshaft pulleys come off pretty easily. My thoughts are using are Deere 420 pto and changing the bottom pulleys to the same size. That should in theory give me a similar functioning setup with available parts. Anyone have some input?

Well.....I know it's a terrible sounding thing but hard to beat the parts availability. Plus they have similar pto setups.

Here's another thing to ponder. I was looking at the transaxle and was wondering if the rearend I got from a duetz 1920 would fit. That would add dual brakes and locking diff while retaining the 2 speed. Heck, I don't even know what setup these ran (Really haven't spent a ton of time with it yet). The 55 series are new to me. Would be a nice addition.

If I remember correctly, the guy I got my parts off parted the 1655 so he could use the motor and PTO on his 420. He had 2 Onans on his bench and the PTO's also, both from 1655's. I have also pondered the notion if my electric PTO goes out on how to weld the pulley then fab up a manual engagement idler pulley.

I believe you have a Sundstrand pump and Peerless rearend.

I'm gonna investigate the rearend. I have all the linkage and such from the duetz. Sounds like I panned my winter project out. As for the pto, I think it would be easier to swap the pulley on the jackshaft. The hardest part is locating the right size pulley with the correct splines to slide on it. Nice thing about the Onans, there are different adapter rings that bolt to the block. That allows the different pto applications.
