Dear Community Members,

Over the past year or two, there have been updates to the environment that have introduced challenges in usability and performance. Efforts to improve the technology, user interface, and site performance has revealed weaknesses in the platform and outdated software this site uses. This has made it increasingly difficult and frustrating to support and upgrade to more modern reliable standards that users deserve. Our advertising experience and certain ad partners have further degraded the functionality of the site. This is not the experience we want for the members of this community.

Members want a fast site that performs well across all devices, to be able to find relevant and interesting content, and easily share through text, images, video and messaging on a secure platform. Our goal is to provide this ultimate user experience to all members.

We will be implementing a new platform to better meet the needs of this community and allow us to provide support more efficiently. Our focus is to create a sustainable platform that performs well, and loads faster on all devices, while offering seamless ways to search and connect. Technology is constantly innovating - by creating an environment that we control we can maintain the site with more frequent improvements and maintenance updates.

Although change can be difficult, we are here to support you through the process. We make every effort to review existing settings and make the changes needed so the migration goes smoothly. If you notice something doesn't seem correct once the site goes live, don't panic! We'll have a dedicated person monitoring as the site goes live to answer any questions and provide support through this change.

What's next?

I bet you're thinking, "What does this mean for me and the community?" It does mean change, but it will help solve a large majority of the issues that this site may have been experiencing. We have reviewed reported issues, site statistics, traffic data, and user feedback to help us prioritize the changes and improvements. Uploading an image or video will be easier and streamlined. Ad formatting will change with a new site layout. The site will be more responsive - there is no need to use a mobile skin or special app! Security and user privacy will continue to be a top priority.

When will this be happening? Soon! We recognize the user experience is slow and there are bugs from the outdated software. The sooner we can change that the better we can make the experience for you. You'll start to see activity related to cleanup in preparation for migration very shortly. We will post an announcement to the community prior to starting the actual data migration. Once the migration begins, the site will go into maintenance mode and will be read-only while data is being migrated.

We appreciate each member's contribution to this community and look forward to an improved experience for you all.

Thank you for a "heads up" - it is nice to know that the site is no longer adrift without someone at the helm like it has appeared at times over the past few years.

Hopefully the Moderators who have done a great job of caring and keeping the site afloat during the past few years will be included and informed on any updates and upgrades as well.

While the transition may not be entirely painless hopefully the results will be a much improved environment that we all can be proud of to share and enjoy in the years ahead.

I am looking forward to this change, hopefully all goes fairly smoothly for everyone here. I think the two biggest issues have been pics uploading incorrectly and members unable to download manuals. Yes, we have lost a lot of folks due to the issues here, maybe some will come back with this change.

Trouble is Kenny, these new formats don't seem to supply room for storage such as manuals etc......Hope they can save that stuff somehow
That sucks! Our manuals are what folks come here for!

Hope this works out for the best, sounds like it will. I was just getting the hang of navigating this format. Oh well at 72 I guess I can learn again.

I know a lot of frustration was showing , but attrition of members is also due life and taste, change of hobbies and style change as well as frustration.

Anxious to see the new format.

Roger

Having access to the manuals is a important part of being a member of this site. My concern will also be what happens to all of the old posts? I certainly don't want to see those disappear. There is a wealth of knowledge in all in all of those post. Especially those that are no longer with us. I hope the update will be a move in the right direction.

I originally came looking for manuals. Still looking for manuals occasionally. Looking for information on my Agricat I found a build thread here that looked like it could have provided all my answers. But Photo bucket had "updated",, Made all the pictures unavailable. Many people worked very hard to build databases on the web through Yahoo and Photobucket and those two companies trashed it all. I certainly hope this site doesn't go the same way in the name of progress.

Is that why the links for some of the manuals on MTF no longer work? See that site now uses XenForo software

If the manuals are not going to be accessible after the update then I would say that would be a step backwards and not an improvement for GTTalk or its members. One less reason to come to this site for any prospective new members as well as any established members who rely on the manuals section to help them out when they get a new tractor or attachment that they are not familiar with and need information about.

I agree guys, the manuals are important. I am staff on MTF and another hot rod forum. Both converted to XenForo lately and both lost a lot of content. I don't know if this forum is going to XenForo, but would bet on it as Carbon Media is owned by the VerticalScope group and they are big on it. Hopefully, they can find a way to save the manual section.

Maybe the admin that posted this thread would look further into this for us.

Hopefully we'll get an answer before they are gone. I'll download and save every one if I have to.Just won't be much help as I don't know some brands well! Don't want to see them just trashed!

When my hotrod forum changed formats, they put what was called the knowledge base, which was similar to the manuals section into a section of the regular forum. It made the forum list a mile long. I had to go in and condense it down by using sub forums.....Made it more readable and at least the info was still there.

I visit two other forums that switched to Xenforo. They immediatly rightaway lost a lot of members. Both forums have a lot of old male members (don't like change) if that has anything to do with it.

See that some of the manuals on MTF in the Bolens section still exist and others give an error message. Also noticed that one of the links for a document that did not work had a link to the "Wayback Machine"to the right of it and it appears that the link takes you to the missing document. Relying on the "Wayback Machine" for missing documents is not a good plan as that website could disappear or crash at some time in the future.

Here is an example https://www.mytractorforum.com/threads/bolens-sleeve-hitch-installation-guide.67784/

Click on the link and you will get an "Oops We Ran Into Problems" message - click on the Wayback Machine link beside it and it takes you to the missing document. Better than an error message but not necessarily an improvement if that is what we as members have to look forward to with the update - just my opinion.

I want to give you an update on the process I use once the site goes live with the new platform.

The night before the site goes live you will see an announcement from me that the site will be going live soon. Once the actual process starts, the site will be in read-only mode while the team does the migration from the old platform to the new one.

Once it goes live you will see an announcement thread created here in this section. All questions and feedback about the new platform should be posted ONLY in that thread.
  • You will see me reply to the thread introducing myself.
  • I will add a new signature and avatar to the admin account.
What should you be doing now before this happens?
  • Make sure your email address is up to date in your account.
  • If you don't remember your password, now would be a good time to reset it. Save the information.
When Will This All Happen?

gardentractortalk.com is currently scheduled for June 10, 2021. HOWEVER, the schedule is very fluid, so that could change depending on any complications or schedule changes. I am simply giving you a heads up.

As your dedicated support, I will be here with you multiple times a day once the site goes live with the new platform, answering questions, and listening to feedback.

My only request is that you remain patient with me while we work through the changes.
