yesterday, i had to go get some welding gas, and grinding supplies. i have to drive by the local scrap yard to get there, and back. so, on my way home, i dropped in to see what goodies i could find. i didnt see anything i needed, then, before i decided to leave, i remembered that there was an area where they put old tractors, instead of scrapping them. well, lo and behold, there was a Bean Cutler, tipped up on its nose with the rear in the air! i scrambled over to it, and started to get a better view....and went instantly to find the yard boss, to see what it would take to save it from eventual demise. the qoute he gave me at first, was a bit shocking..( .50 cents a lb!!!). so i stood and talked with him for a few minutes ( it always helps to build a good repertoir ) and, eventually, he came down quite a bit for me. i still payed more than i wanted to, but i was ok with the final deal. sooo, here it is at home, after i went and got it this morning:

new bean.JPG here is the id tag...in excellent condition, no bends, scrapes, or cracks, and still has the red paint in between the FMC lettering.

new bean 2.JPG

new bean 3.JPG the drive tires are mis-matched...one original, and one motorcyle.

new bean 4.JPG heres the cultivator tines

new bean5.JPG engine seems froze up, but i wont know for sure until i get the engine lift plate loosened up, or cut the belts off....but it is complete, down to the air cleaner assembly :smilewink:

new bean6.JPG fuel tank still has part of the sticker on it, but the fuel bowl is broke off of the tank at the nipple.

new bean 7.JPG here is the original throttle control, a piece of the operators side of it is broke off, and looks to have been for a while.

new bean 8.JPG and it is a cable steer system, with the pulley broken ( i have a good one to replace it ), but the original cable is complete, and not frayed, or broken.

so, i guess, all in all, i am pretty happy about this one...and this is now my oldest one with a serial number of J29677

i am a little confused however, as to the engine and machine corolation. the new machines engine number 1036665 pulls up Feb 1948....but my other Bean Cutler, which is machine number J29738, which is 67 machines later in production, has an engine number 1077368 which pulls up Dec of 1947.... :wallbanging: so dating the machines is getting a little confusing! this machine is going to get a restore job, but will be a while, since i already have started on the other machine.

That sure is a great find, Jim

I'm really glad you kept it from being scrapped.

Great save, no yards around here will let you do that, once in the gate it is scrap..... although the yard may keep stuff for themselves.

Nice that the Wisconsin is so complete too.

it is nice....the problem is, that the things they keep out of the immediate scrap pile, they want .50 cents a lb for...and unless you get to know them, or do allot of business with them, they stick to that price. i am very fortunate to have run accross it, and grab it up.

Whats that 4 now?

Good job on the save! $.50c a pound is alot we only have to pay $.20c at the yard by me.

$.50c = around $350!

$.20c = around $140

I dont think the engine on your tractor is the engine that came with your tractor from the factory....

Can you send all you ser# and mod# to me when you get time.
