I went to look at a 1476 and it followed me home. It was bought from the original owner, a man in his 70's a few years ago. Garaged all it's working years and supposedly only use to mow grass. The deck is really nice, has a bearing that is starting to growl may need replacement.

The hydro was dry and exceptionally responsive, drive line was tight, front wheel bearings tight, steering is tight, no oil leaks on the motor, has original exhaust system and original exhaust hanger system as pictured in the original Bolens catalogs, which is incredibly solid. I have yet to ever seen one with original exhaust, chrome exhaust shield and hanger system.

The original owner installed an hour meter on it when he purchased the tractor, it shows 1107 hours and still works fine. The motor seems to run well. The carb has been rebuilt, new Carlisle tires all around and the s/g was professionaly rebuilt by a local shop. It charges well as it should. All the lights work. My plan is to take things apart and make this a really pretty tractor. As of right now I don't see a lot of serious mechanical work that will need to be done until I get in there and really look. It seems as if this is a pretty nice original tractor that has not been messed with too much. Here are a few pictures of it.

Congratulations. Like you said, a really nice, well maintained, original tractor. Huge potential for an easy cosmetic restoration. I've never seen ribbed tires used on the back of a GT before!! If it was used strictly for mowing a flat property I can see where they would work fine.

Looks like a nice GT, but I agree on the back tires!

I bet you could spit on the ground in front of the tire and get hung up!

That exhaust may have been replaced but it looks a lot like the original. I'll know for sure once I take it all apart. I am not a fan of the ribbed tires but hey at $145.00 a piece I'll hang onto them for now. I have a brand new set of ag tires that may find their way onto this tractor. Here is an original ad showing the complex exhaust hanger system as well as the exhaust.

Nice find Ed but those tires will be as much good as screen door in a submarine. They look like aircraft land gear tires. However the 1476 has a lot of potential in your skilled hands. Good luck with it.

Nice looking tractor! Got to agree, those back tires are something else! Looks like it would be a problem going uphill in wet grass!

:ditto:

Thats what I was thinking :D

Looks like a few modifications here and there (Hood latches,Ball hitch, deck,Muffler) But looks like it can all be removed and brought back to OEM.

You also need to toss that seat for an OEM one

He put a tow hitch on the front, that is coming off. He also put a rear spot light on which will be coming off. I'm not sure on the muffler it may have been replaced but the hanger system and muffler guard are original. He welded on some plates for front casters on the deck. He did a nice job on it. That deck is in great shape, although has a loud bearing. I doubt I'll ever use it so it may find it's way out the door at some point. The rear tires are pretty ugly the more I look at it. The ag tires I have would look really nice on it. I'm excited to take things apart on it and have a closer look. I may start on it in the Fall or over the Winter. With luck it will be a nice tractor. I love the looks of this style tractor.
