Any ideas on what Bolens this tiller fits?

Looks like I'm in the midst of some knowledgeable Bolens fans. I don't know much about the tractors, I purchased an FMC Bolens tiller Model 18315 Serial#0300158 thinking a could modify another tractor to use it. Would anyone happen to know what model Bolens was disigned to run this particualr tiller?

Welcome to the Forum!:welcometogttalk:
If you have some pictures of the tiller, I may be able to ID it better.
Enjoy the many forums here at GTtalk!
Here are some pics of the tiller I bought, I've had it four years now without using it once. It's such a sturdy machine I'm determined to find a way to put it to use. Let me know if it's familiar to anyone. Special thanks for your interest in helping Bolens 1000.

I know what it goes to now :smile1:

Its a 33'' tiller that went on a Bolens XL series. Here is a parts list for it :

Here is a page that will show a few pictures and more info about the Tractors.

Nice place to find people who appreciate a good machine. My old Uncle Tex recently passed away and wanted me to have his Bolens 1250. Always kept in the garage and well maintained. 1613 hours on it. Has a plow and a home made bucket he built. Paint is showing it's age but still looks good. Have only used it a couple times but seems to run great.

I'd sure like to find a good mower deck for it. I've heard there may be other implements still kicking around somewhere out there. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks,
marc
Now that I know what I'm looking for, I can start shopping. Wish me luck. Anyone have recomendations regarding hydro vs gear for tilling and such?

The gear driven are better for tilling, pulling stuff. The hydros are great for mowing, snow blowing ,plowing ect.

Not a problem, just like to keep things easier to find. :D
I have one of these on my QT 17. Looks like the extender has been installed. Does the drive shaft have much play?
:welcometogttalk: Bobo, nice to have ya here and another Bolens guy too :D

I've seen several tractors on E-bay and looked at the manuals as well. I'm trying to get a visual of how the two L shaped brackets attach to the tractor. Is there a mounting bracket or something else required? Will this tiller work with any of the XL or just some? Do I need a tractor with special pto capabilities or is that standard across the board? I'd like to be better educated before my next purchase. ( lessons learned ) Any insight would be appreciated.

The brackets should just mount right on to the slots that are moulded into the transmission of the Tractor. I think you should be able to mount this tiller on any XL. But I could be wrong.
I never seen an XL series in person, so I'm just going by what I have seen in manuals.

I guess you could mount this tiller on another tractor with some fabricating, as long as the PTO shaft spins in the same direction.

If your question is regarding the tiller pictured everything is tight and solid. Thats what attracted me to the tiller in the first place. I had visions of fitting this tiller onto any of my other tractors hoping to retire the troy-bilt walk behind. As it stands, I've learned the difference between a real tractor and the lawn mowers sold today. My goal now is to find a machine that will run this tiller with as close to a direct fit as possible. Do you think the QT17 is an option I could consider?
