Hey, thanks for all the helpful posts. I learned a very valuable lesson last night. The steering shaft is tapered toward the dash so after you smack the center nut a couple of times the steering wheel is a little loose. Upon grabbing the steering wheel after this loosening, be very careful when pulling the steering wheel off. I pulled too hard and think I may have broken my nose.

Aside from the pain in my face this morning though I am fine but embarassed. Luckily my uncle wasn't there to see the event. He would have gotten a good laugh once the blood stopped flowing.

I hope this update is useful to others trying to remove a steering wheel. (or trying to get a free nose job)

Well, at least you got it off, and a restoration story you can tell your kids, when you want to see them laugh.

Sorry you got hurt but can't help but laugh because that sounds like something I would do. My wife says she thinks I like pain ..........
but I don't, I just sometimes abuse my body. Glad you got it off.

Did you get a video of that? I bet not! Happy to hear you got it off, sorry about the nose. Don't catch a cold for a while.

Sorry to hear you got hurt. But once you get the Restore done, you can honestly say you put "Blood, sweat & Tears" into that project.

Oh how I wish I did. I would even pay money to see that.

My wife always says it's not a project until I bleed on it. Well, it is officially a huge project. (the tractor not my nose).

OUCH! I'd think you'd only do that once huh! At least you met your goal!
You don't know me very well. I will probably do this on every steering wheel I remove. I am not a rocket scientist.(but I played one on T.V.............not really).

I'm no rocket scientist either, but I stayed at a Holiday in Express once! Yep, I've busted my nose pulling on things too, just never a steering wheel....that I remember!

Sorry to hear of the pain, but look at the positive side

Your DNA is now part of the tractor. My DNA is on everything I work on.

Keep your chin up and it will get better

I too, have a propensity for self abuse while working on stuff. I feel bad for you tho. I watched a friend of mine break his nose changing a fuse in an old fuse panel... It was mounted on the wall at eye level. He was screwing the fuse in and his pinkie touched ground at the same time his thumb to the live wire. Punched himself with the back of his hand HARD. Blood everywhere.

After reading your first post in this thread, I paraphrased it mentally, hearing you say it with a swollen nose...

I got da teering wheel off, but by dose deeds a puller to.

Hey, the injury ritual is what bonds you to the tractor. I never feel truly into a project until some blood has been spilled!!
