Right in front of the lower entrance into the blower chute, it's self.. It had been welded before at that same spot

Could have been a bad weld

Its strange that these rods break, maybe they were made out of inferior metals? I dont know but I have had atleast 3 blowers with broken chute rods that I had to weld up, you wouldnt think solid steel would break moving a tiny Chute!???

more likely the torsion on the shaft is exceeding the strength of the metal that's why i lube the chute plates and a plus to that they don't freeze up and cause undue stress on the shaft thus reducing overall stress including stressing over repairing and or replacing said shaft . after you repair / replace the shaft use a light grease like white lithium or something along those lines and grease the heck out of the chute base and gear this has saved me from excess stress for the last 3 years that i've used my blower and it doesn't rust around the base with the grease in there so it's drop it and hook to the tiller in the spring instead of service this and that before you drop it .
