First # is distance between pins, measured in 1/8" increments. Second # is duty rating.
#40 roller chain is 1/2" pitch (4-1/8" increments) and standard duty. (0) #41 would be 1/2", only light duty. #45 would be 1/2", with no pin in the roller.
Short answer, yep; you need 40 pitch.
