I finally had a chance to drag my bolens tiller out of the barn and start to clean it up. It is a 2077-01 with a 7 hp k161 kohler. I understand there fairly rare but just how rare are they? (I just want to know out of curiosity...Im not selling it at any price). Is there anybody else on here that has one? I will post updates as i make progress. It ran when i got it but the coil went bad shortly after and the tires were junk....I had hard time finding tires as they are 7 inch. I just bought a pair from millers and bought a new aftermarket/ oem replacement coil from sams bolens. I also now have a paint code for the green. The motor has a tight spot that im going to investigate/ repair before i get it running.... Should be a fun project.

I got it on trade from a good friend who wanted a few things i had and wanted to see the tiller go to a good home. The thing is a monster. According to the parts catalogue it weighs 485 lbs! We have a large vegetable garden and I do landscaping for a living so it will likely get a few oppertunities to stretch its legs this year.

Does it still have a serial number? They may shed some light on what number it is off the factory line.

The serial number is 1160
This is just a guess but from what I know for bolens serial number from the 50s I have to say that it is number 1,060 off the factory line if they started at 101 like a lot of bolens stuff did. Not 100% tho.

The 2077 was made 59' to 61'

It was called the "Badger"

There are a few circulating out there but definitely not something you come across every day.
Dont you have badger or was yours a power tiller or something like that?

Well the motors off and the top end has definitely had some water in it. this is shaping up to be quite the project. The bottem end looks good though. Ive got the piston out and Im going to try hone the little rust marks out but its quite likely i may have to bore the motor 10 over.

I need a smaller hone before i can continue with the engine. Today I got the cover off the transmission and washed it out. the gears look great. I may put new shaft seals in it. will see if they leak or not. I made a new transmission cover gasket as well. I also got the plate off the bottem of the tiller/ rotor housing. That was not a pretty sight. somebody at some point switch it to grease. needless to see say the old grease has the consistency of play doh. The worm gear is worn and has a ton of play. obviously they are likely nla as a bolens part. Im sure i can cross up the seals and bearings but this is going to be a pain crossing the gear up. Were rotor/ tiller housings in tillers fairly standard or proprietary to each brand back then? do I have a chance of crossing the gear up to another manufacturers part number? Ill try and get some pictures soon.
