I spent a couple hours in the evening for the last three weeks getting the Bolens H16 in better shape. It had been wrecked and sat under a tarp since 1991. I have a lot things on my plate right now and my vision problems are getting worse, so I've been kind of pissy. I've been in College 4 semester in 18 months, summer winter, fall, and spring, plus trying to make money to pay bills., but back to the Bolens. I picked this up in Iowa for 600.00 with a almost new snow blower, tiller, and dozer blade, like I said it had been wrecked, maybe twice. The first wreck took out the lower PTO unit complete, broke it of from the baluster, it was nicely welded and replaced. Second wreck, or part of the first, the wheel/spindle was hit hard enough to break the wheel bearing and I believe the PO drove it like that for some time, not sure if it caused the spindle to wallow out the axle or not, but it was way out of tolerance. I decided rather than drill and bush it I would just order a spindle from a Bolens 1050 which had 7/8" shaft going into the axle rather than the 3/4" shafts the H16 had, this way I just had to ream the axle to 7/8" with no need for a bushing. I ordered a new steering link for it as well and new ball joints and steering shaft bushing. I also found a new steering wheel cap, (36.00+plus 10.00 shipping). I tore it down to the frame and blasted it, cleaned it neutralized the rust with OSPHO and primed and painted it, Maple Hunter supplied the decals and the new low back seat was from Northern tool for 49.00. The PO told me that the engine was less than a month old when it was wrecked and stored in 1991, and since the serial number comes back as a 1989 I dont really doubt that the engine was built some time before it was installed on his tractor that the engine wore out

Thanks for all the nice compliments. I'm looking for another Bolens, but until then I have two more tractors to restore, a first year 1973 case 224, and a 1973 Allis Chalmers 416 Shuttle
