Hi all,

Just signed up for Gt. I have been playing with Bolens tractors off and on for a long time, I recently have found myself more interested in them . I now have 4 large frame tractors, none of which are in great shape, and this brings me to my first queston. Last year i bought an 1886 with the Kohler, K432. There is something wrong with the engine, but im not sure what it is. I will know much more after I remove it and tear it down. It turns over fine, but wont start. I think I did a comp test last year and it was low. Anyways, Yesterday I boght a HT20, with a K582, very rough, most likley going to be a parts tractor. Can anyone tell me of any of the parts from the K432 and the K582 are interchangeable? I am planning on rebuilding the K432 in the 1886, very soon. My thoughts were , if any parts were interchangeable I will have more parts to choose from with rebuilding the K432. Thank you for any info .

Hello Welcome to GTT!

Sounds like you have some nice machines we would love to see some pictures!

The K482 and K532 are different HP so a good amount of internal parts would not be interchangeable, I dont have the breakdowns in front of me but I am sure some of the sheet metal may be the same.

Most parts are still available new for these

Your coil, governor, heads, and I believe the rods are the same, save what you can,the rods are NLA,and if you get lucky enough to find someone who has them laying around are pretty pricey,by the way welcome aboard, those are both great machines, need anything just ask,we will be glad to help

Hi and welcome aboard. Those two engines have the same footprint. If the 23HP is good I'd just swap that one right onto the 1886 and be done. Both are great tractors for sure.

The 1886 has a Kohler K482 in it if orginal. The HT20 should have a Kohler K532 in it unless someone put a K582 in it. The rods, pistons and few other things will not interchange with the K482 from the 582 different bore and stroke. The pistons are different between the 3 motors. The rods will interchange between the K532 and K582 but not the pistons. Also to let you know the rods for all 3 motors are NLA.

Also welcome to the site and enjoy.

:welcometogttalk: , and :wewantpics:

A lot of KOHLERS have an Automatic Compression Release on them and must be turned at 600 RPM's or more for it to operate correctly, or maybe the ACR or valves are improperly adjusted.

Welcome aboard!

I am looking for large frame front end parts if you end up deciding to sell any.

Will the crankshafts from the later engines fit the earlier block? (Same main journal sizes?) If so, wouldn't it be possible to use 482 pistons with the later crank, and use rods to suit?
