just bought a Bolens Lawn keeper. When I put it in forward it jumps and doesn't fully engage. In lieu of taking the transmission, I was able to find a new in box transmission. It's a Foote P-337. The question I have is what type of oil/grease do I fill it with? I've heard that they came filled with grease. If anyone has any information or advice about these it is much appreciated. Thanks.

Those transmissions are not very leak-proof, so they require grease instead of oil. When I rebuilt mine, I used John Deere cornhead grease that is available in 14oz tubes - more than enough for the transmission. This is type 0 grease, as I recall. It will become liquified when it heats up, unlike the stiff grease that Bolens put in. I also added a grease zerk to the housing to add grease without having to disassemble the transmission.
