First off, you all will tell me "it's not yours if you don't have photos". To which I will say that you have to patient as we just bought new phones and had to order a USB cable in order to post photos onto the computer. It is suppose to be in around Wednesday. :camera:

I just picked up a Snapper 1650 with 3 point and PTO. It does need some work but is a strong base for a project tractor. First the bad: Tires are weather checked badly and two won't hold are for more than a couple hours, has no battery (what a surprise), needs carb work (needle valve), and hydraulic cylinder shaft is pitted.

The good stuff" Engine starts and runs great at strong rpm, no smoke whatsoever. The only thing I saw missing is knob for "shifting". It drives good, i.e. steering and hydro strong. It has a draw bar with ball on it. Lights are said to work. It's past, Owned by a really nice guy that was attached to it and had owned it over twenty years (he bought it as a teen). His wife said restore it or get rid of it and he couldn't find the time. It spent those years in Florida either in a garage or moving boats and boat trailers around and that's it. He did say he found it amazing that he could move a 28 foot boat around with it. lol The 3 point is supposed to work fine although it's just starting to leak (the pitting). He never tried the PTO it may be unhooked. Now the best part, I paid $125 for it.

Yes, I'm going to have to put some money into it (slow and steady). But this is what I've wanted for awhile. Now I need to bee on the lookout for a 3 point trip Johhny Bucket.

Yeah I know the engine is worth more than I paid for the tractor. But the full 3 point is what made it such a great deal for me. :usa:

Waiting for the pics! I'd like to find one of those, myself! I've looked over several of those friends have and they look to be pretty good machines!

Congrats on your wish list tractor. Those are hard to come by especially at that price. Looking forward to your pics.

Sounds like a nice lightly used 1650. A very nice find indeed. The 3pt is a big bonus IMO.

Here's some photos. Started and it ran fine with the fuel adjusted just right. The 3 point and mid mount hydraulics work fine ( aside from the cylinder slightly leaking due to rust, also rod seems slightly bent). Tried PTO it did not turn at all and bogged down the engine to near a stall. Thought about just stripping the 3 point and putting on the other restored tractor and using remains for a parts tractor but I doubt I'll do that. I will buy a new battery because it's missing one. then new front tires because the rears will hold air for a couple hours and the fronts won't. I can also swap my rear tires easily from my other tractor. Then with the forums help I'll maybe attack the carburetor. That will make it mildly serviceable. It will eventually need a top link for the 3 point. Then in time get new ag rears and hopefully a Johnny bucket or other dirt scoop for the rear. Possible cosmetic restore but not seeing that for quite a while.

Anybody have any idea what the PTO situation is from my description?

Reg

At $125, you likely broke some laws on the Illinois books! GREAT buy!

Not bad for the money. I'll bet you have a bearing frozen on that PTO!

Difficult to fix? Require anything special too wise to repair? Not sure I'll ever have an attachment that will require PTO so doubt I'll get real involved unless something falls in my lap.

I haven't a clue about how the PTO is ran under there. But, you can take the belt off at the engine and see if it will turn by hand. It looks rather rusty in that pic where is comes out at the rear. Maybe someone with knowledge on these will chime in.

Yes, as Kenny said, you likely have a seized bearing. The female pto output at rear of tractor should turn by hand if not engaged. Bet it's the big bearings down there doing it.

Would I need a press to remove and install? I assume so, I know where my Grandpa's press wound up so I could call in a favor if I take it that far. Where do you guys get your bearings.

There is a large clip on the back side of that bearing, then press or mallet drive out. I've never had to remove any of mine though, so not sure on the bearings. Likely a number on the bearing so you could cross it at a bearing supplier. Sounds like your shaft bearings are turning ok, or things would be locked to the engine, preventing cranking, leaving only this large bearing to cause your issue.

Anyone remember a thread on here with photos showing a carb rebuild on a K341 Kohler?

Nice find! My 1450 has the 3pt and pto but somewhere along the line the driveshaft to the hydro(which has a double belt pulley to the pto shaft) was replaced with a 1 piece driveshaft with no pulley to drive pto. If I'm not mistaken the 1450/1650A was the pto model and had a 2 pice driveshaft from engine to hydrostat. Either way I will make it work.

Those carbs are super simple to rebuild, you can get a kit at your local Napa. Pay attention when you take it apart and put it back together the same way but cleaner!!!!
