I'd like a bit of input on the possibility of using a cat 1 3-pt on the HT23 and by extension the HT20D and HDT1000.

I may have a deal in the works that would make having a cat 1 desirable.

I was thinking that I could mount the lower arms to the outside of the mounting tabs on the axle, and using a shim if necessary for the holes in the lower arms.

I can get a cat 1 3-pt 'kit' at a pretty reasonable price here:

I'm thinking that while they are at the low end of what the cat 1 is designed for, the HT23 series should be capable of using a number of cat 1 attachments.

What say you?

I'd be a bit concerned about putting excessive load on the outer tab on the axle.

You'd be applying a twisting action against it.

Link worked for me and that kit seems like a very reasonably priced item. I would say if you have a choice, Cat 1 is the way to go.

There are so many more attachments available in Cat 1, and if you careful to size them to fit your GT, you will be much happier than if you wen O.

Well I think it could be done. I had a JD x475 and it had a limited cat 1 3pt. The limited refers to the lift range not being as large as the full Cat 1. The arms would take a 26" cat 1 attachment. The arms have to be shaped so they will spread that wide. I've attached a photo that shows a Cat 1 dirt scoop on the hitch. There are a lot of limited cat 1 attachments around. All the Sub compact tractors also use this , JD2305, Kubota BX etc. Most implement companies make implements designed to fit these tractors. The top link attachment point is lower, the construction lighter, the frames and blade height etc are designed for a smaller tractor. These attachments would work on a HT and it would have the power to pull it. The JD's used to be available with both hitch options Cat 0 and 1 but I don't know if that is still the case. I chose the cat 1 option and it was fine. These pics give you an idea of the way the hitch arms looked.

Possibly, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with the earlier Large Frames where the lower arms are mounted to the inside of the tabs.

My only comment is that Cat1 attachments vary greatly in size and HP requirements. So it really only depends on what you are wanting to use/run. My B5100 has a cat1 3pt but it's only 12hp diesel and the tractor only weighs 900lbs. So I can run my 450 48" finish mower but I wouldn't want to run anything bigger.

There are a lot of implements around that will work on the limited cat 1 tractors. A full size cat 1 implement will not be a good match. Not enough lift, too heavy and the weight is further back from the rear wheels. Not a good combination.

Both of my tractors will be in the 1100 lb range, and would be either a 19.9hp or 22hp diesel.

I know that I would have to be careful of the hp required for each implement though

The Large Frames have two tabs on each side.

Here's the pic of it. It's listed at 179.00. They also have just the lower lift arms at 99.00.
Those arms still look like they would be too narrow. If you look at the ones on the JD I posted above there is a really big flare in them. It was a stretch to get a 26" implement on there but it would fit. Any smaller and you would have to remove an arm to install the implement. Maybe you could get some measurements from the seller to verify that it will fit. That looks like a great price for the full kit!
