Well check what a little of elbow grease and some crome cleaner, car wax and a steel wool can do for you:smile1:. since the hood had a rust look to it i figured it wiould not hurt to try to get the rust off. The dull photo is without flash, I am tickled :rolling:since we are going to put this tractor to use with the tiller for now. When I get serious about restoration then I will sand blast it to perfection. Again I want to say thanks to all that has helped me so far. I feel as if I have made a whole new bunch of friends for the next year. You all have a happy and safe New Years!

That cleaned up pretty nice. You should consider a quick coat of paint or at least some wax to keep surface rust at bay until you do your restoration.

I see you have at least 1 chrome hubcap... do you have the others?
I have the front 2. Bob Mann at sonnybolens.com said that you would have only got 2 since the mower has the adjustable differential. It made sense to me. He did not have any in stock. would John Deere caps fit this? I figure its a standard size wheel?

The grill is pretty much solid rust. I tried a little, it may take more then steel wool.

I usedcrome cleaner and scratch off car wax. I have seen in some of my car magazines a product that removes rust from metal just by dipping it. I wonde what the effect of this would have on a painted surface? Also i remenber 20 years ago a guy using a product on his rusted pickup truck. He was using a sponge and just rubbing it around the rusted areas and the rust just disapeared down to bare metal. I assume he primered the area after this. I was impressed.

I will have to disagree with Bob Mann, as The Bolens were sold with Both the front and rear hub caps if you wanted to buy them.
If the rims of the JD are the same as the Bolens then they should fit. You should be able to find a rear set easily as the blank ones were used on quite a few brands of garden tractors, the Real hard to find caps are the ones with the "Bolens" stamped in them

The hub caps were sold as a set of four per my paperwork. Now if you need a set of rears i have a ok set that is plain not stamped with the bolens logo if they would match what you have.I also have nos center caps for the steering wheel if you need one.

Also that looks alot better.I just ask one thing now please change your avatar :poke: :bigrofl::bigrofl:
