What's the diffrence in front tires I went to Tsc to look at new tires and they have smoothed ribbed tires 16x6.50x8 for 41 but the same tire lawn and garden it said but had all thread on them and there only 28??? To me that seems like it should be the other way around..... what's the diffrence and should I buy the 41 dollar smooth tires vs the others and while we're on tires talk to me about the back tires does the stock bolens lawn tires do ok or should I get tractor tires with aggressive look to them my tractors mainly garden they don't mow hardly

Whats wrong with your old tires? from the looks of them in the pictures they still look to be holding air?

Your not going to find a tire of better quality today, there's a reason these 40-50 year old Good year tires are still going strong, many times a tube can add another 20 years of service!

You were probably looking at different ply ratings at tsc.....

well depends on which picture you seen i have a 1254 and a h14 my h14 are fine my 1254 have huge gashes in them when tubed the tube sticks through so yea i cant fix that..... the tsc tires are carlisle and they are 4ply i mean i honestly cant see the diffrence of why the price is diffrent other that the thread the 41 dollar one is the smooth ribbed tires like whats on them the 28 dollar tire is the lawn mower style tiire with thread on is seems to me the price would be the other way around but i dont know which i should buy do smooth tires have a benefit over the thread?

Here's another thing to consider. The old tires on your 1254 have a narrower rim than a lot of tractors with the same size tire. Can't remember the size off hand but if you put new tires on it the tire will look all baloony on a narrow rim. I wish I had some pics of what I'm talking about but I don't. I'd try and locate some used original style tires for it. Even if you have to tube them.

The ribbed may be more expensive because not a lot of them are sold. Most folks don't use the ribbed because they don't have great traction (at least on the rear drive wheels)

Country of Origin is the deal I bet. The cheap ones are Chinese. Most Farm stores are selling those now days. I have used Deestones from Ty-land, but the Chinese brands, even with their goofy names on them, just look cheapy to me, but cost about half price of Carlisle. I bought some used once, and found the wires in the beads were broken from changing, even tho the tread looked great! I threw them away! www.greaterclevelandtire.com has good prices and sends fast, I reccommend, have used many times.

I would say tread matters and would recommend the ribbed over grass tread. Less mud and dirt to stick on the tire vs. the grass tread style.
