so been reading a lot of forums and joined this one a few days back

yesterday I took the plunge and bought a pair of mf 12

Wheel Tire Vehicle Automotive tire Motor vehicle

the one on the left is a 1970 hydra with a koler 301 in it

the one on the right is a 1974 gear with the proper motor

and have one mower deck

Motor vehicle Road surface Asphalt Bumper Gas

as I wanted a gear more than a hydra have spent most of my time on it

got it running and drove it around a bit

there are some bugs to work out

first will have to be a new ignition switch as neither one has one so i'm just jumping the solinod

the steering is very stiff but shouldn't be hard to loosen up

I've read a lot on here about stiff choke cables and throttle cables mine are very free so free in fact that you have to hold it up to maintain engine speed

any tips on how it stiffen it up

I switched out the hoods so I have the head lights on it

the front tires are are 6 in on it and 8 on the hydra would like to swap them over but may have to swap out front axles as well as they seam differant from each other

will also change the muffler for the up right one as it's more to my liking

will have to check out the deck tomorrow as it is locked up but seams to be in good shape

so here's a few more pics

Welcome from the Black Hills! Looks like a great pair of Masseys. I have a 1975 12G that is my summertime mower. Keep us posted.

Welcome aboard. Nice set af 12's. I just got rid of all 3 of mine. I live only 30 mins.from Hanover. You will like them when they are running in tip top shape. I preferred the hydro over my vari. You can take your handle off and hammer the revit tighter.

Good luck with them.

the plan is to mow with the vari then assess the hydro's needs as it needs a lot

would like to get them both working as I have dedicated jobs for both of them

then will see about restoring them as I like em shiny

Welcome aboard!

Nice MF's!! :say_what:

Some handle pivots have a screw and block to tighten up the handle travel.. Another way is to put a bend in the cable rod so it will grab the cable case.. Good Luck!!

Couple of good potential machines there, thanks for saving them and sharing the pics.
The repower doesn't look to bad.
In our manuals section is a "build date by serial number" list to verify the years, if you wish.

The friction disc in the throttle is wearing, tighten the rivet is first choice, bending cable works too.
If you do put stack on the 10, be sure to brace it a couple of places. Especially if its your mower as you'll be more apt to bump bushes with a mower.

Welcome to GTT. Looks like you have a couple of nice projects there. It will be interesting to watch as you work through all the issues and see the final outcome.

ok I got the up right stack on her today and it defintly barks now

time will tell if it stays or go back to the strait out mushroom one that was a bit quieter

with 6 hrs mowing here it might get hard on the ears

got the mower freed up and the manderals greased new deck belt and added gear lube to the gear box and sharpened the blades

new pto belts and greased everything

oil is done

couldn't get the throtle control off so both of them have penitrating oil ont the screws will try to swap them over later for nowput a few kinks in the cable at least it will maintain rpms

cut a small area with it today and it cuts nice

tomorrow will cut the rest of the placë and give it a real work out

forgot the camera today will get pics of it working tomorrow

still need an ignition switch as I'm just crossing wires to start it now and I added a kill switch to shut it off for now

guess I'll find out how it goes tomorrow
