I had posted about my FIL's 800 that I inherited. It had a plow but no mower deck.

Then sometime later, I found a Brinley dump attachment in the side room of the old garage.

Well, I have now found the mower deck, AND the rotary tiller attachment :D

Bad news is that they have both been sitting outside at the rear of the garage in the weather for 20+ years. I didn't see them last year because they were hidden by a lot of foliage.

More bad news is that the mower deck seems to be nothing more than rusted junk. Every thing is frozen solid with rust, and I doubt that it's salvageable.

Good news is that the tiller seems to be in good shape, which is surprising. I turned the PTO shaft by hand and the tines are moving with very little effort. That's probably because it was sitting with the gearbox and tines being protected from the rain and snow by the top cover.

Tiller is the 22" one with the extension added. The "flaps' at the rear aren't moving because of some rust, but I'm thinking that with a little PBlaster, it will free up.

I also found the long rod for lifting it, so once I get a bit of grease in the u-joints, and check the gearbox, I think I'll dismount the blade and give that rascal a try.

No pics right now since I've loaned my camera to a friend. I'll post some when I get it back.

Sounds like the tiller is going to be good to go. I think a little pb blaster like you said on the rear flaps and they should free up nicely.

Shame about the mower deck but at least they are a little easier to come by. If it isn't rusted through and is still nice and solid it might be worth cleaning up, granted it might take a while. Just work at it slowly and might be able to get it working. Could always build a mammoth electrolysis tank and submerge the whole thing :D

I just went out and took another look at the deck.

It looks like the PTO shaft, and the gearbox might be salvageable, so it might have a part or two for someone that's rebuilding one.

It was on edge up against the back of the garage with the bottom of the deck facing out. That protected the top just a bit, but the underside isn't looking good at all.

Also, there is a at least one spot where the deck has rusted through.
