Hi Guys,

I recently purchased my first vintage John Deere which I'm excited about! It's a round fender, 1965 model 110 that a guy started restoring; did a great job, got about 80% re-assembled after painting then lost interest for whatever reason and just quit.

Luckily he did a good job of marking bolts and other pieces but being my first experience with a green machine, it's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle that I'm trying to figure out.

Most of it seems pretty self explanatory however I'm having a tough time with the starter/generator. The main cast mounting bracket that bolts to the block is there and have the generator mounted to it, however I'm not sure how the stabilizer/adjustment bracket is supposed to be installed, to adjust belt tension and hold the generator still. If anyone has a picture, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, is there a preferred replacement fuel sediment bowl assembly that is recommended? I've bought cheap aftermarket ones in the past for other tractors, but want to ask as I see if it leaks, it's definitely going to make a mess out of the nice green paint.

Thanks in advance for any help and JD education! Rob

Well Rob, I did a search through my pictures, and this is the best I have right now:

Motor vehicle Automotive tire Wood Automotive exterior Window
Motor vehicle Automotive tire Wood Automotive wheel system Automotive lighting

The top piece bolts directly to the top of the coiling head shroud tin, and the front piece bolts directly to the upper piece. A bolt is pushed through the back side of the front piece, and is threaded directly into the starter generator casting. Were the upper and lower pieces attach to each other, you'll want a long enough bolt connecting them, as the starter generator shields top tab gets fastened to it as well. I'll get you a better, cleaner picture of a complete assembly set up this weekend if you have the time.

Good Luck, and feel free to ask anymore questions!

Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to take and post these pictures; super helpful!

I have one more question now...how does the heat shield supposed to be installed above the muffler on the right side of the tractor? (It is odd shaped, has only 1 hole and can't quite figure out how it's supposed to be installed.

Thanks again!! Rob

The piece you are talking about goes on the right side as you said above the muffler. The shield is held on with the hood bolt wider part coming out the back above the muffler. The lock washer and nut go against the bracket
