i am using a home made splitter 4 X 24 cylinder and a ZZ briggs engine. it the last 35 years it pushed the wedge off twice. the ZZ starts on the 2nd pull.
Well the original motor lasted over 40 years running at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Seasonal use of course. It would sit a few months between splitting sessions. I know what you're saying about letting them loaf along and get hot. Long periods of idling aren't good for air cooled motors.
I had a nice ZZ one time. Should have kept it. Ran great. Just a pull or two of the rope and always started. Would have made a good splitter motor for sure.
