I recently acquired a MF 10 tractor. The engine was in bad shape s0 I replaced it with a HH120 Tecumseh engine . I have adjusted the belts according to the manual, but the engine belt to the transmission keeps turning with the clutch depressed even though the belt is loose. The belt appears to be in good shape, I am surprised that it would keep turning the transmission pulley with the belt so loose.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

i think those used a peerless tranny and there should be a brake adjust when you push the pedal all the way down. If the brake isnt holding the belt will have enough friction to keep the tranny turning and make it hard to get into gear. I dont have a massey tractor, but my MM has a similar tranny and had the same problem.

Craig, are all the guides and guards in place? Once the guards are in place, they will act as brakes to stop the belt from turning once it gets loose. Also, make sure the brake is tight so that the drum stops turning also.

I found that you need all the belt guides in place for the front belt to stop turning even then it's slow to stop.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. One of my belt guards is not the proper one, it is off an MF12 with a hydro transmission, I will try replacing it with a proper guard and see what happens.

I have an MF10 with standard transmission and a MF12 hydro parts tractor. I will have some left over parts if anyone needs anything.

Hello Craig, I'm not sure If it's OK with the site but I have to ask if you have a good---doesn't have to be perfect by any means,
MF12 steering wheel and the little knob for the hood release lever?

Later---DAC
