Picked up a HT23 a few weeks back. Spent some time cleaning it up,painting and fixing things. Went to mow with it yesterday and relized it was blowing clipping and what not out the front as much as out the side chute. I didn't notice when cleaning and painting but after inspection today I see that the bottom of the spindles and the entire blades are lower the the edges of the deck. Is this the way Bolens designed these decks or has someone replaced the spindles with some that are to long. I'll post pics and deck model tomorrow.

. Make sure that you have blades designed for your deck and they are installed with the cutting edge down. If someone has installed blades for the wrong rotation or up side down (even one blade) you will see the kinds of results that you are dealing with.

Some pics for ya. First one is of the Bolens. Second is of the model tag of the deck which it's a mod # 181110. Third pic is from the front and the forth is from the side. On the last two pics I tried lining up the front and back lips of the deck to show how much the spindles/hubs stick out past the lips. The center spindle appears to stick out a little more than the outer two.

The blades should be sitting all at the same length

These older Bolens decks were often shallow and would blow alot of grass out the front, I cant say if these models do it as much as the tubeframes as I have never cut with the 54'' decks .
