Hi,

I'm new to the board, but have been browsing around. I picked up a MF10 with the mower deck at a farm auction last fall. Cleaned up the carb and replaced the fuel line and air filter and got it running pretty good. The one thing that is bugging me is the lift lever. I have no button screwed onto the inner shaft, just a pair of vice grips and a nut. I have looked at the parts page from AGCO, but can not picture how the spring and button go together. What holds the button on? Does the grip need to come off the outer sleeve to hold it on?

I'm just a little lost here.....

Thanks,

Mike

Also if anyone knows where to find a replacement button, spring, etc.... that would be amazing

First, :welcometoGttalk: 77cjIN, good to have another Massey Guy on board.

Second, the rod is fine threaded, and the button is a nut. The spring sits on a shelf in the tube, and pushes back up on the button. The spring is about 1.25 inches long by 5/16. Those are approximate measurements from memory 2 years ago. My button was there, so I just bought a variety spring pack at TSC and played with a couple until I was happy.

The button goes down into the tube about a quarter inch when in the up position.

If you need to work on the rod ( clean up the threads, etc ), you can slide the rod down thru the tube if the tractor is about 8" off the floor and the lever is forward. Just don't bend it, if 8" isn't enough to clear the floor, carefully go higher.

If you need an example of what the button looks like, check out the one on the variator handle.

Good luck and let us know if you need more info. Oh, and we,d love to see pics of your Massey when you get a chance.

Hi Mike.

Welcome to GTT.

If you're not in a rush, I can get you one of those buttons.

How long would you say that button is?

Thanks for that info Alan.

I would have to go pull one to be sure, but around an inch. Depressed, The button is flush with the tube top and the rod clears the notches below by about 1/8" or so. To get the right hgt, the threads bottom out, so if someone makes one, they will have to think it thru.

Alan, thanks for that info, I've got a lift lever I need to repair myself. So the button just twists on and off like a regular nut?

Yes, but the rod is pretty thin, so dont just lock on a set of vise grips and twist. Not to say the rod is fragile, but some caution is a good idea. Bad thing is, without inverting the tractor, you cant get penetrating oil in there very well. I was afraid to heat as The rubber grip is there.

later, I found out you can remove the grip by warming it good with a hairdryer and pulling it off. Just dont scorch that 40 yr old rubber.
