I have a chance to buy a Kubota G4200 for $350. The seller doesn't know what's wrong with it or if it runs? It has sat out side for 2yrs. Has mower deck too. I know nothing about Kubota or diesels. It had 1223 hrs on it.

I'd chance it for that. If the motor runs it is a perfect candidate to repower a machine in better shape.

It could be a very good tractor but, there are several red flags that I see. It looks like someone gave up on it, took the seat and let it sit. The question becomes what went wrong? You should do some dignosis to eliminate engine problems. If the engine is good, that would be a good price for just the engine.

If you can't even see it spin over, I'd say $250 is more like it. Even then it may not turn out good. I love diesels, but if I couldn't at least see if it acts like it has compression, I'd sure pass at $350.

For 350 I would sure look at it. You could probably put the deck on, a seat and after its running; then, sell it for a good bit if it turns out to be something you don't want.

If the motor is good and it runs thatll go 350-500 all day long no questions asked. But if the engine needs something well then youll be reaching deep in your pockets.

Around here put on a good poker face and its $100 tops..Dont let salvage owner see any of that excitement over brand/fuel monikers.. There is a huge difference in price on something that runs and something that "did run"

I agree except for one problem. It is a whole lot easier to buy something than it is to sell it. Remember Everything DID run at one time or another. Big question why was it parked?

Yah this gentleman is a nice guy wheeler dealer, but he is 89 yrs old and I feel I can trust him, but maybe his memory isn't as sharp as it used to be. I will see if I can get more info out of him as to why it was parked.

Sorry but that is a deal killer. Kubotas are really great machines but they are very different and that knowledge gap might frustrate you.

On the flip side, you will look a long time to find a deck in decent shape for $350 in my area. I have a K-Deckless model now...

NO WAY NO HOW!!!!!! I wont pay anything more than $100 for a non runner unless it is something really spectacular or rare. to much to gamble on, no idea what cond the motor is in ?? what about the trans ?? to much to risk. even if you do buy it then decide to part it out you have to able to vouch for the parts you sell and you wont without being able to test it all. then after you are all done you want to be able to make a little cash and how much is that worth when it is running and driving ??

I wouldn't give 350. Too many "IF's" and if it was something simple the seller would likely have fixed it and made a chunk more on its sale.

Think the Ariens or what is the Twin 18 in? is better looking buy. That Kota has been banged around a lot and bet no care either. That is just a Lawn tractor for them, not the better Scuts which would be more what I would want from that brand.

I agree with trying to score the Ariens. The Bota is a money pit if it doesn't run and drive. I would walk over to the Ariens and make an offer on it.

Most of the time what you give for it doesn't compare to what it cost to get it back in good shape. Unless you have a lot of spare parts and time.

Throw a good battery in it and crack the fuel lines loose and see if the injector pump builds pressure.If so I would pay $350 for it.You can always part it out for more than that.Injector pump is worth around $300 used.

I would love to find a diesel for that price. I'd offer say $200 or maybe a package deal with the Ariens. At least try to take battery over and see what happens. It might have a bad transmission, but good motor. Maybe ran out of fuel and no knowledge as how to prime? Could get most of the money out of selling the deck. Of course if it runs then can't dicker on price!
