Hello, I recently joined this site as I hope to restore a John Deere 120 with my small engine shop class. I received the tractor as a gift and hope to locate a service manual for it to help guide my students. I checked out the site but did not find one using the search tools. Can someone point me to where I could find one on the site or send me a PDF of the manual? Thanks in advance for your help.

What you are looking for is SM2090 which I do not have a copy.

Welcome to the forum. John Deere is very protective of their service information so you may not find a copy for free on a website. You could try contacting a local dealer or John Deere publishing - [email protected] using your school letterhead and see if they might be kind enough to provide a manual at a reduced cost in the interest of education. If you have access to any of the online University or College libraries one of them may have a copy in their system that you may be able to view. Just a couple of suggestions if you have not already tried that route.
Hi,

Try this site Search for Equipment Publications - Technical Information Store (deere.com) . I did see some manuals for a 120 garden tractor. What is the manufacturer of the engine?
That tractor is basically the same as a 140H1. Few minor differences in the drive line and brakes, but a manual for one of those maybe helpful.

I'm the epitome of ID10T Error. After a winter in the shed, my lawnmower would click but not start so I assumed it was the battery. Got a new one but isn't U1-250 like the previous. It's the TSIB-UL350. The "mower associate" at tractor supply assured me it would work and it was the only battery left at any store. The battery works but now I have a new issue, the PTO won't engage. I checked the tension of the belt, checked the little switch for the PTO wand in the motor compartment to make sure it was sticking out and made sure the clutch cable was connected. Nothing.

During the final mowing days of last season I did notice the blades slowly spun to a stop when I disengaged the PTO.

Also worth mentioning is if I turn the belt spindle under the motor, there's a slight groaning and/or hissing noise like air escaping.... not sure what that's about.

Talk to me like I'm a dumdum. I'm not an auto mechanic and big words scare me.
