Good morning all,

I have a 1975 MF16 and just bought a Johnson Work Horse Midget 10 Loader without any pump. I am not familiar with hydraulics and need to configure a hydraulic pump whether PTO, inline shaft, or electric. Could I tap into the mower deck hydraulic lift lines? If anyone could provide some guidance that would be greatly appreciated.

The hydraulic pumps I have looked at can't take side load to be run from a belt off the front PTO, so I need to either remove the PTO and attach to the crankshaft using a love joint assembly but I don't know the size of the crankshaft end, or whether it's keyed or tapered.

As you can see, I'm lost in this area and would appreciate any help.

Thx, John

Congratulations on finding an Front End Loader(FEL). It will be easiest if you find a pump that can take side ways loading so that you can mount it to the side of the engine. Do not try to use the tractors' hydraulics as it won't have the reservoir capacity. Check our Manuals Section for Johnson Workhorse FEL manuals and do-it-yourself plans. The manuals may be under several different brands. Keep us posted on your progress. Good Luck, Rick

There is a manual for the model 14 in the MF section http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/files/file/1532-johnson-model-14-fel-instruction-manual/

Here is a model 10 in the Bolens section http://gardentractortalk.com/forums/files/file/4229-johnson-work-horse-loader-midget-model-10-for-bolens-800-900-1000/

When I installed the Johnson on my 1655 I used a Case pump direct driven off the crank. It was what I had on hand and an easy install. The loader valve has the relief needed and upright had the reservoir needed. Only had to run 2 hoses to and from the pump. I originally considered finding a side load pump but quickly realized I'll never remove this loader to utilize the pto so didn't really matter losing it.
