Well, the old Kohler in my ht20 is getting smokey. The motor still has lots of power, starts up great and runs well. But she has started to leak oil on the left side somewhere (I have yet to look really well for where) she is also smoking out of the breather tube. I have found a rebuild kit from psep.biz, they also have the Kohler valves I should replace at the same time. This project won't be happening for a little bit yet, going to finish tilling the garden tomorrow evening and park it until I have time to rip it down. In the mean time I would like to gather some info and opinions on rebuilding this motor. I am not looking to purchase a new motor as I love keeping these tractors close to original and currently all the Bolens have original motors.
Any and all information is welcome and appreciated.

Aaron, when you do get ready to try the rebuild, let me have a chance at beating PSEP's price. I may be able to do that.

Leaking areas may be caused by loose bolts. Check them. Smoking can sometimes be reduced by adding Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas. Over time it will slowly clean the combustion camber, valves, and piston rings. Six months in an old car and it has stopped smoking completely for me several times over the last 48 years. Are you able to provide genuine kohler parts?
I sell a lot of genuine Kohler. I used to stock a lot of K series twin parts, but I stopped doing that after the prices went through the roof.

Thanks Ben. I have still yet to put the gasket kit on my g12 I ordered from you, that's going to happen this weekend hopefully.
As far as the k532, I think I am going to be into rings, valves, gaskets, possibly Pistons, and maybe valve guides. Would you have these items?

Any suggestions on what else to keep on eye out for when ripping into the motor?

Valves I have in stock, gasket set I keep in stock, valve guides I keep in stock. Pistons I don't stock, but I can get in a day or two unless it is an oversize, and that is usually something I have to get straight from the factory and not my distributor, which takes time.

The biggest thing to watch on these engines from my experience is the bushings and bearings. They do commonly have a lot of scoring and can easily go out of round.
