My old 1975 MF16 with the K341 16hp Kohler still has points and condenser. I'm looking for suggestions/advice regarding converting over to electronic ignition. Finally had enough of messing with points, after all these years! Any information regarding products and user's experience would be appreciated. Also web links would be helpful too. And, if converted, do folks just leave the old points and cover on the motor, or do you remove that stuff and cover with some sort of plate? Thanks!

I did a full electronic conversion on my '71 JD 120 using a piece from Kirk that is no longer available called a Pointslayer. It uses an electronic eye so there is no metal to metal contact. That one will start right off at -20 or 100 degrees without missing a beat. Will see how the Pointsaver goes on the 312.

Kohler had electronic system of some sort on 14 hp Power Kings and most of those guys want to change to the points!! When the sensor goes bad, they either are not found new, over-priced used or just not available. I've never had issues with lasting long on points, but Wait! I never keep them long enough to wear them out maybe? Not sure what t his point saver thing is really doing, how it works. Thought condensors were the "savers" in the system?
