New here and it appears there are some experts/ fellowship here to rescue me if I get in too deep. Quick story: In looking for a solid, old style transaxle, a guy said no luck but maybe what he had" out back" might work. Under, not one but two fallen trees I could make out "12" and Massey Ferguson under the branches. Could see nothing else clearly
except that the steering wheel is crashed and the rest appears to be all there. He says its a hydro and has a points-type ignition. Barring rain here today, he'going to pull it out. No clue what I'm getting into but that's part of the challenge I guess. First order of business is would someone help me ID this jewel, please and I'll report back once the mud/leaves are
cleared away.----Thanx to you all for any help.

Take pics before it's out, we'd love to see them.

BTW, I could be wrong here, but it thought by the time the 12's were out, they had switched over to the CDI. Maybe I'm all wet, maybe it's had a transplant from an earlier unit, be interesting to find out. Looking forward to the findings.

Good to know there's a member here from middle America. Seems all the bargain tractors are in Pennsylvania. They can't have ALL the fun.

OK, I have the PICs but no glue how to attach them. This may take more patience than the entire rebuild. I'm asked for the URL of my photos which have none, or a video of which I have none, I'll have to figure out how to simply attach photos.-----Nonetheless I could not find a S# under the seat, nor on the tower, but a limb was
blocking access to the frame side. The "12" decal is black w/white lettering. The Hydro housing in rear has a vertical slot with a short arm--sort of lift op?- Sorry little to
go on until I can post PICS. ---I can attach then to an E-Mail to someone who can post them, otherwise I'll try to figure it out.---

that vertical slot with the short arm is part of a sleeve hitch which was a option from the factory , you will find the serial and model numbers on the left hand side of the frame right below the plastic dash it may be cover with dirt and or pine pitch but it should be there

nope , masseyferguson started makeing the 12 hydro in 1967 which was before the ssi or other wise none as CDI was installed in the 12s , thats not saying that his is not a points type ignition but there where 12 hydros made with points

Well not quite. There 3 pics there. I can't get to the front end yet. Finding parts in a barn is much better than the woods.

The serial number tag should be behind the branch, under the dash, about where the red circle is.

Thanks, I wasn't sure when the CDI was a permanent fixture vs. when they started the hydro version.

Wouldn't it be great, if it fired up, and you could drive it, all bent and twisted like that.
That'd be a great entry for Ugly of the Month, next year.

Glad you took some before pictures. Hope you get the tree off it. I just found a MF10 buried in the dirt. You can fix this one it looks like it is all there just a few dents and some rust. Good luck and keep taking pictures as you go.
