Hey all you Massey experts out there what can you tell me about the MF 1200. I know that it is a gear drive but is it belt driven? Do they have Kohlers in them? Was there many attachments made for them? If anyone has some detailed photos please post. Any and all information would be great.

Or is this a model that should be passed on?

Thanks ,
Mark

I think they have Kohlers
I am curious also .... about this model
Do they have a variator?
Was there a hydraulic lift option?

BTW I posted on one for sale in the craigslist/ebay forum

I got a 1600 Massey as a parts tractor in a package deal and this is how it is set up. I am pretty sure it would be the same as the 1200. There is a 90 degree gear box located just ahead of the tranny. This gear box is shaft driven from the engine. The output shaft of the gear box has a v belt pulley on it. The Peerless 4 speed tranny has a v belt pulley on it's input shaft and a spring loaded idler pulley is connected to the clutch pedal and tightens the belt that runs on those 2 pullies. There are no hydraulics on this model, just a hand lift but does have the electric PTO clutch. It would have a Kohler engine in it. I don't know just how many attachments were made for it. It would be a heavy duty garden tractor, just not as cool as its big brothers with the hydro and hydraulics on it.

Then Massey 1200-1600 had same drive set up as the post side-drive Fords and even CC 1100 and 582 Special used. (I think?) These were about same vintage as 1200-1600 Massey.

The gt industry as a whole was moving away from side- drives.... Sears hung in there till early '80's and Deere till '87. Then only one left was Wheel Horse.

That one was in Detroit. Very clean tractor wit deck snow blade and two piece cast wheel weights .... all for $450

I search craigslist a lot and many nice tractors are posted and gone in a few hours. Happens all day long

Mike is right on with his description of both the 1600 & 1200.

There's a 1200 in the Dallas Craigslist right now. I think he's a little high on it but it looks pretty good. The 1600 like I have has a 16hp Kohler and the 1200 has a 12hp Kohler. I put a 3 point on my with an electric actuator and love plowing the garden with it.

Thanks guys for all your information. Does anyone know if there was any attachments made for these like a sleeve hitch, front blade, etc.? I assume the attachments for the MF 10's and 12's will not work.

Thanks again,
Mark
