Is the electric clutch hard to replace and hard to find for the 1855/1655? Does anyone know how much they usually run? Also is it hard to find rear pto for them? This one I am looking at has a 3pt but no rear pto.

Hi george I can tell you this about the electric clutch on the front mine hasn't given me any problems at all since having the tractor. This is my opinion I don't like the electric clutch myself everything starts with a bang.I'am sure if mine was to ever go I'd make a system where I'd use the belt tensioner thats there now to disengage and engage the belts with a lever and rod mounted down near the dash.Kinda like what the MF 7 had for engaging the belts.I hate when things start with a bang it's very hard on belts and gears and shafts and u-joints etc;Thats my opinion and what I'll do if mine should ever give up and fail.As for the rear pto I'am certain you could find one some where on the net.Good luck with your find and possible purchase of this one, there a excellent tractor tough as s##t you'll be happy with what they can do.Larry

Had a guy from MTF email me. Sounds like the same tractor. Never seen one with 3pt that didn't have rear pto???? The driveshaft runs straight to the pto shaft, then belt to hydro, so I guess the upper shaft just ends at the rear?

I guess we will find out because I put a deposit on the tractor. I will let you know and take a bunch of pics when I can.

I don't like the idea of electric pto, it would be nice to keep it original but I am up for anything.

George,
I ran my old 1655 for 28 years and never had a problem the the electric clutch. I just hope I have the same kind of luck with the one I have now.

I can't say that for this one as he said the electric pto doesn't work. Maybe it is just the wiring or a loose connection. I will find out but if it is the clutch itself what are my alternatives for fixing or replacing it?

Alright I can't keep a secret anymore LOL

As long as everything holds out I have a deposit on a 1855 with the above mentioned problem and I am going to pick it up on Friday. It has the mower deck, 3 pt and a 48" snow blower.

You don't need that one George, you should pass it on to me.:bigrofl::bigrofl:

By the way, those electric clutches can be rebuilt. They can be re-wound,but you have to know what you are doing.

After I have wore it out I will pass it up along that way how is that ? LOL

I am anxious to dig in to it because I think I will be able to get the clutch working again. This will be the base to the one project I wanted of my dream tractor and that was an 1855 with a diesel. Might take me a couple years but I will get there :D

How about a 20+hp Yanmar diesel! A 16hp diesel has way more grunt than a 20hp Onan.

I think it is going to become my goal and project to put a yanmar in it. The John Deere CUT I had was a yanmar diesel and I really liked it.

Nice, i have been trying to find one as well, but without money or space, it is hard, so i don't really look very hard. I like the idea of a diesel in it. It should sound nice, and be a tank.

You will find one. I was honestly not even looking and just happened to look sunday night and came across this one. I am probably going to sell one of my tractors to make room for the new one. I am going to feel bad breaking the news to one of the girls that one of them is going to have to set outside till we move. I don't know which one and I am sure that whichever girl I set out is going to make sure she gets me back, you know how them women are LOL
