Thanks. I have not bought the tractor yet, but here are a few pictures. This will be my first MF tractor. It's exciting because we've used MF tractors on our farm for 30 years this year.

That's the one that's been for sale around Indy for a while. Glad to see someone getting it bought and planning on fixing it up.

Thanks!!! This is great news, as I now other people who are looking for nose caps too. I hope in time to restore this tractor. I want to get it to operating condition first, as It will be used to pull our lawn roller, lawn sweeper and wagon. The owner says it smokes, so getting the engine fixed will be first priority.

I have a few more questions about this tractor: #1 Who made the hydrostat, #2 Are these hydrostats reliable and what is parts availability.

Sundstrand model 15 hydro parts are still available as are manuals here in the manual section of this forum, I have the same tractor and two of the MF-16's, Do yourself a favor, pull the engine and have it mic'd then order your rebuild kit with the correct oversize piston and undersize rod. Any other way and your wasting your money and time

The Sundstrand hydro's are almost bullet proof, and VERY strong. The nose piece is very hard to find, and used ones often go into the 3 figures, which is way too rich for my blood. I'm not sure if GTReproductions is still going?? Not heard from him in a very long time.

Welcome to GTT. Before any major work on the engine, do the routine maintenance: clean the air fins and flywheel housing, oil change, lube, clean the fuel system, new air cleaner, tune the ignition, adjust the carb and see how it runs. If it is only smoking a little, put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas and put 20 hours on the engine. Change the oil, adjust the carb, and check for smoking. I've done this many times and had the smoking stopped. If it hasn't reduced the smoking, you will probably have to rebuild it. I've saved car engines with this technique. It worked real well on Chrysler 2.5L 4 cylinder engines. It sometimes took several months of MMO in the gas but it paid off. Good Luck, Rick

The last I heard GTreproductions had redesigned the nose piece as one solid unit which should have been from when the tractor was made

GREAT advice, before doing anything, make sure you really have a problem

Thanks for all the info! I will probably order a nose piece as soon as I get the tractor. I have not seen it in person yet, so I don't know how bad the engine smokes.

Hi.

Welcome to GTT.

You'll like that GT. They are a great machine.

As you dig in to it, if you've got any questions, just ask.

Hopefully we can help.
