Hello, I am new to this forum. I am restoring my fathers 68 MF10, and I am putting it back together.

My problem is the the clutch pedal doesn't seem to disengage the transaxle. if you try to put it in gear, it grinds. I also cant shift the variable speed back into P..

i did put new belts on it, so I am assuming I hooked up something wrong.

Thank you for any insights you might have.

Welcome to the site. I would recheck the belts first. Have you tried finding a belt diagram in the Manuals section?

You need all the guards and belt guides in place for it to work right, they help to stop the belts from turning when you push in the clutch.

I would go through the whole Vari/Drive adjustment procedure as out lined in the manual, you put new belts on it and the width of them will be different than your old worn ones, belt grabs the pulley on the sides and gets narrower when it wears.

Hope this helps.

I thought it might have been the spring which operates the variable speed section was too much tension...I pulled it off and relocated it ot the other hole, which will make it pull back straighter.seems like the tension is better, and it seems like it works better.thank you for all your help!
