The parking brake lever on my MF14 is frozen up. I can put a pair of vise grips on the lever that points toward the rear that the control rod is connected to and move that up and down but the forward part with the notches that locks the peddle in place does not move. Can someone explain how it's supposed to work? Don't know if there's a broken weld where it pivots or what.

Part 531139m92 or 526813m91 Depending on model year.
Is that the part frozen?
It should drop, and lock in when the control lever is engaged.
Most likely rusted on nicely. Had same issue on mine.

The spring pulls it down, because it is below the centerline of the pivot point, when you engage it.

Yep, that's the frozen part. I thought it worked the way you said. Guess I'll figure out how it comes apart and clean it up real well. It was 104 degrees this afternoon and I was out in the sun with no shade and sweat dripping in my eyes trying to look at it. I'll take another look in the morning. Thanks for the help. Goofy me, never thought about downloading the parts manual (I'll chalk it up to being old). Thanks again.

I guess, being it is rarely used, and no grease fitting on it hidden behind the cover, it is one of those spots that
never gets maintaned.

I don't think the PO knew what it meant to maintain a piece of equipment. I've rebuilt the carb., put in new points and condenser, replaced the blown head gasket, and need to replace the starter solenoid. I'm also installing a 3pth from a 1650. This thing was covered with dirt and oil from a loose hydraulic line. Doesn't look like he ever greased the u-joints or anything else either. Lots of work but I enjoy it.

Got that puppy fixed. Took longer getting all the rust cleaned off than anything else. Thanks again for the advise.

Glad you got it going. Sure is hard to work voluntarily in that kind of heat. It's topped 100 here in Ky, with heat index several degrees higher. It's my day off from the milk cows, so I just "might" go to the shop later....but then maybe not.
