Would think you need program or a part to scan for a program? Not sure how those work. And, can you make it thick enough? I'm kinda thinking it can only print One surface and have no thickness control that would be needed in spots?? Finding that good part to plan from would be the hardest part. I've never seen one, but these printer things are a really neat idea, just think they need to evolve more to be practical for any serious parts making.
My son has printed a handful of things at his school. Nothing other than random things he makes on designing program. I'm wondering if I can get him to reproduce these dashes. I have a 990 that needs one. Never really thought if that. I'm gonna talk to him tonight about getting these different dashed "digitalised". I will post back.
Last week on "Jay Lenos' Garage"(tv show), they used a 3D printer to print a car chasis. In an hour they then assembled the rest of it and took it for a test drive. It is kept simple by being electric. It was very impressive. I recomend seeing the show. Good Luck, Rick
That's a GREAT idea you guys have. I believe the stock dash for these were vacuum formed plastic, and obviously way too thin. I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to make a reverse mold and make it out of fiberglass. Or, it may be possible to make a mold and see if there's a plastic company that would form them out of sheets of HDPE plastic. The only issues being, small runs can get costly, and the molds would most likely have to be made from a large piece of aluminum otherwise they'd break after a few production runs. Let's keep thinking guys, we'll come up with something!
