This is an old MF1450 that has been sitting for 25 or so years. I have it running but have not used it for anything functional yet.

Anyhow. . . .. starts up and runs GREAT. Ammeter shows that it is charging. After running for about 15 minutes there is an audible click sound, ammeter goes to zero and engine shuts off. After sitting for 2 or 3 minutes, she will start right back up. Each time I start it back up; it only runs 5 minutes or so before it shuts off again.

Is there some sort of thermal switch somewhere?

Not that I know of. Usually this situation is fuel not getting to the carb or an overheating ignition component. You need to diagnose the problem when it dies. A light that indecates spark will easily diagnose the spark problem. If it sparks good, clean the fuel tank cap and try running it. If it dies check the fuel flow at the carb. The fuel lines and filters suffer alot from the ethanol in the gas.

The click makes this one odd..sounds like something is grounding the kill switch..try removing the kill switch wire from the coil and see what she does.

That click throw me off too. I had a Wisconsin do that and fought it for a couple months. Finally go it fixed. It was the vent hole and cardboard gasket in the gas cap. While running, gas would splash up on the cardboard and after a short time it would swell and close off the vent hole. Made a larger hole in the cardboard (for lack of tech term) and never happened again.

I third the circuit breaker. And the gas cap is a good thought too. I would check the ignition switch. The connection on B terminal over time starts to go bad causing troubles. Resistance and heat from that terminal maybe causing the breaker to click out. Noel

I found a safety switch that had been bypassed. It was shorted out with a piece of wire stuck in the connector. It wasn't the seat safety switch or the PTO switch, but was located under the seat. I redid the shorting wire in a more permanent manner. . . problem seems to be gone.
